Garment Techniques in Art Quilts
As I’ve mentioned before, when I was a child my Mom was seriously into sewing. She made beautiful garments and insisted that we learn the proper way to do so, as well. We were in 4-H (Mom was one of the leaders) and one year for the competition she helped me make a beautiful plaid suit. During that project Mom showed me how to match plaids at all the seams and do inset sleeves for the blazer. I wish I had a photo to show you.
In any case, last week I was working on an art quilt landscape and needed to layer a curved turned-under edge piece over another fabric and have it be flat. As I clipped the curve, I was so grateful for those sewing lessons from my childhood. Thanks, Mom!
