Ironing fabrics

Over the past week or so I’ve been reviewing many calls for entries and deciding which upcoming exhibits fit my work and to which of those I might have the time and inclination to submit.

I keep a monthly planner specifically for art business. It really helps keep track of things like upcoming entry deadlines and shipping or exhibit dates.

Anyway, yesterday I began work on a call that has a deadline in January. The first step in making a textile piece is selecting fabrics. I’m really blessed to have quite a bit to choose from here at home, but it has been a slow process unpacking and organizing my studio. So every single piece of fabric I own is badly wrinkled and in need of serious ironing before it can be firmly selected.

I did manage to get most of the fabrics for this diptych unearthed, selected, and ironed. They are now hanging over the upstairs balcony railing waiting to be transformed into a cohesive whole.
